Reading Reflection | Week 2

Week 2:

Entrepreneurship: Evolutionary Development - Revolutionary Impact

Questions being answered regarding Chapter 1:
  • 1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?

  • 2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.

  • 3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?

  • 4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?

1. During my time reading Chapter 1, "Entrepreneurship: Evolutionary Development - Revolutionary Impact", there were many aspects within the reading that stood out to me. I love the way the author explains entrepreneurs as being agents of change and heroes of free enterprise. This statement, "entrepreneurs serve as agents of change; they provide creativity, innovative ideas for business enterprises; and they help businesses grow and become profitable" truly stood out and enabled me to think about a whole new perspective on the concept of being an Entrepreneur. I certainly believe this quote to be true. Another surprise that stood out to me was some of the myths associated with Entrepreneurship.

I feel that the "Myth 7:  All Entrepreneurs need is luck "section could not be more accurate. I was inspired by the quote, "luck happens when preparation meets opportunity". I completely agree with this statement and believe that it is much more than luck - it is a combination of preparation, desire, determination, knowledge, and innovativeness that makes an Entrepreneur successful.

2. The most confusing part of the reading to me was the schools of entrepreneurial thought approach. The macro and micro view makes sense, but I was unsure about some of the context within those sections.

3. If I were able to ask the author two questions:

  • How did you learn so much about Entrepreneurial Schools-of-Thought Approach?
  • What types of ventures have you worked on in your experience?

I would ask these questions in order to have a better understanding of the Entrepreneurial Schools-of-Thought Approach and how they were determined, and also to learn about the author's ventures that lead him to the place he is today.

4. I don't have anything in particular that I felt the author was wrong about. I really enjoyed the "myths" associated with Entrepreneurship and very much agree with the authors perspective on these.
